This is an important song. First written in 2013, the song sat until the basic tracks were laid down in 2021. I wasn't happy with my vocal performance and it just didn't feel right to release at that time... it was waiting for now. If you look at what is going on socially and politically at the moment, there is no better time. A group of small-minded people are trying to make our Trans family feel unimportant—inconsequential. That same group is targeting our brown-skinned family simply because of their skin tone. The movement has begun in some religious communities to start sincere work trying to overturn gay marriage—my marriage. There is no better time than now to remind everyone that you are beautiful, you are powerful, you are love—and no one can take that away!

I am blessed to know so many great musicians and artists. My long-time collaborator and friend Alex Maiers provides the amazing guitar work. Alex has such an amazing aesthetic and ear, his additions to my songs take them to a higher level every time. I grew up listening to Queen, and you can feel the Brian May influence on this track and most certainly on my track We Can B Free.
I am joined vocally by an amazing artist out of Nashville, Justin Ryan. Justin and I both worked in music programs at different Metropolitan Community Churches and met through that denomination. Justin has worked with everyone in country music and gospel music. In fact, he sang background on the first song I sold, One in Christ, back in 2000.
He is the creator, host, and performer on the web series Southern Gospel Sissy, which highlights the Southern Gospel music he grew up on, and presents it from the perspective of an openly gay man hailing from the south. I just knew he would knock this out of the park and the gospel flavor fits what I was looking for in this song.
